Girls’ Generation’s YoonA Targeted by Fake AI Images, SM Entertainment Takes Legal Action

Girls’ Generation member and actress YoonA has become the target of illegally manipulated AI-generated images and false claims circulating online.

According to SM Entertainment, the agency recently discovered that unauthorized AI-generated images featuring YoonA’s likeness were being created and widely distributed across social media platforms and online communities.

The agency said it has been closely monitoring the situation and collecting evidence based on reports submitted by fans through its KWANGYA 119 reporting system.

SM Entertainment confirmed that it has already filed a criminal complaint against those responsible and stressed that it will take strong legal action without settlement or leniency.

The agency also warned that creating or distributing unauthorized manipulated images using AI technology may constitute violations of laws concerning defamation, portrait rights and the distribution of digitally manipulated sexual content.

SM specifically urged the public not to create, upload, share or redistribute the manipulated images or unverified claims involving YoonA.

The agency emphasized that even sharing or reposting such content could potentially result in legal consequences.

“We will continue to monitor related activities and take active measures to protect the rights and reputation of our artists,” SM Entertainment said.

The latest case highlights growing concerns surrounding the misuse of generative AI technology, particularly when celebrities’ identities and images are used without their consent.

SM Entertainment has stated that it will continue taking legal action to protect YoonA and other artists under its management.
