aespa’s Winter Faces Online Rumors as SM Entertainment Warns of Legal Action
SM Entertainment has announced that it will take strong legal action against malicious posts and content targeting aespa member Winter.
On September 28, SM Entertainment released an official statement warning that false information, defamation, insults, personal attacks and sexually harassing content involving Winter have continued to spread across various online platforms.
The agency said it is reviewing the material with its legal representatives and plans to proceed with legal measures, including filing complaints against those responsible.
SM Entertainment also stated that it will work to identify the creators and distribution channels behind the posts, both in South Korea and overseas. The agency said it plans to provide relevant evidence to investigative authorities.
The warning comes after Winter was previously linked to dating rumors involving BTS member Jungkook late last year. The rumors resurfaced in August after online users shared claims involving social media activity connected to the two artists.
However, the latest statement from SM Entertainment focuses on the alleged malicious and illegal content being circulated about Winter rather than confirming any relationship between the two celebrities.
The agency specifically mentioned platforms including X, formerly known as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and several Korean online communities.
SM Entertainment emphasized that it will also respond to illegal activities taking place on anonymous forums and social media platforms that were not specifically named in its statement.
The company said it is collecting evidence through its own monitoring efforts as well as reports submitted by fans through KWANGYA 119, SM Entertainment’s reporting system for protecting its artists.
“We will continue to strengthen our legal response to malicious posts in order to protect the rights of our artists,” the agency said in its statement.
SM Entertainment further warned that those found responsible could face legal consequences and said it would maintain a strict approach without settlements or leniency.
Winter is currently active as a member of aespa, one of SM Entertainment’s leading K-pop girl groups. The group has built a significant international fanbase through its music releases, performances and global activities.
The latest statement highlights the growing challenges faced by K-pop artists as social media and online communities allow rumors and unverified claims to spread rapidly.
