BLACKPINK’s Lisa Makes History With Best Pop Win at 2026 MTV VMAs
BLACKPINK’s Lisa has made history at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first K-pop solo artist and the first Asian artist to win the prestigious Best Pop award.
The awards ceremony was held on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California. Lisa took home the Best Pop trophy for her solo single “Dream,” featuring Japanese actor Kenta Sakaguchi.
Lisa became visibly emotional while accepting the award, marking another major milestone in her growing solo career.
After receiving the trophy, Lisa greeted the audience with “Sawasdee ka,” a Thai expression commonly used as a greeting. She then reflected on the journey that brought her to the stage.
Lisa said that the dreams she had held onto during countless late nights had ultimately brought her to that moment.
Her historic victory adds another major achievement to her career as a solo artist. While K-pop has continued to expand its presence at major international award shows, Lisa’s win marks the first time that a K-pop solo artist has taken home the MTV VMAs’ Best Pop award.
It is also the first Best Pop win at the MTV VMAs for an Asian artist.
Lisa’s achievement follows several landmark moments for K-pop at the VMAs. In 2020, BTS won four awards at the ceremony, including Best Pop, Best K-pop, Best Group and Best Choreography.
However, Lisa’s latest victory represents a significant milestone for K-pop’s solo artists, demonstrating the continued international reach of Korean pop music.
Lisa also attended the VMAs red carpet in Los Angeles, where she attracted attention with her glamorous look before heading into the ceremony.
The singer has established herself as one of the most internationally recognized members of BLACKPINK while also developing a successful solo career. Her activities have helped expand her global audience beyond the traditional K-pop market.
With her historic Best Pop victory, Lisa has added another major achievement to an already successful international career.
